Science Topics 2023-2024
Term 3
Motions of Earth & Moon
Questions for Investigation:
What changes are caused by the movements of the Earth and the moon?
How do seasons and tides affect living and non-living things?
Are there any Indigenous teachings about the sun and the moon?
To investigate these questions we:
-watched the solar eclipse live as broadcast by NASA
-went to the Planetarium to learn about our solar system with particular emphasis about the sun and moon
-we also learned about some of the teachings of the Coast Salish People about the moon and saw the artwork about moons in a year as created by a Coast Salish artist.
-applied what we learned to understand time zones, seasons
-applied what we learned to understand how animals and plants respond to the changing seasons as well as night and day
