Who are the First Nations, Inuit and Metis in Canada?

Indigenous Peoples

Indigenous peoples have lived in the country we now call Canada for thousands of years.  In Social Studies, we are going to use inquiry processes to investigate the following Big Ideas:
  1. Interactions between Indigenous Peoples and Europeans lead to conflict can cooperation which continues to shape Canada's identity
  2. The pursuit of valuable natural resources has played a key role in changing the land, people and communities of Canada.


Students are learning to gather information, take notes and prepare presentations.(Truth and Reconciliation Assembly, Remembrance Day Assembly and learning about Jordan's Principle, Ambearrister Program, Kwikwetlem to present to younger grades)
Students are learning to read and to interpret maps and charts.
Students are learning the history of the Kwikwetlem First Nation.
