A teacher read aloud provides opportunities for learning comprehension strategies.  In addition, it is a book that students can talk about with each other.

Moody Elementary At Home Reading

This program is designed to help your child practice reading on a regular basis.  Please support your child by ensuring they read a minimum of 15 minutes each day.  In your child’s planner there is a monthly calendar.  On this calendar, please put your initials on the days that your child reads.  By helping to support reading on a regular basis, you will have a major impact on your child’s education that cannot be achieved in any other way.  Research has found that reading storybooks to children is one of the most important activities for developing the knowledge required for eventual success in reading.  Research also shows that homes with lots of reading material around, and where parents are active readers, are much more likely to produce readers.

At the end of each month teachers will look to see if students have read at least 20 times.  Students who read a minimum of 20 days that month will receive a reading ribbon.  Students will be given a special booklet in which to save each ribbon they collect, and this booklet will be sent home at the end of the year.  Students who collect every ribbon will receive a special treat at the end of the year.

A letter was sent home with information for families.
